Mapping of Indonesian Research in Addressing Millenium Development Goals

Summary

One of the output of research activities can be in the form of papers, journals or research reports. Universities, research institutions, departments and organizations have collected a very large amount of documents as the results of their research activities. Large amount of money and time have been spent for these activities. However, past practice of university research grant funded by DP2M/DGHE has been based on a bottom up approach. In addition, strength and weaknesses of research capability of Indonesian researchers are not incorporated into the policies of university grant schemes. Consequently, neither universities nor DGHE are able to develop a strong base for a development research.

The recent development in the education sector calls for a more relevant, development-driven, consolidated and coherent research program. It means that the grant financing policies should be based on the accurate data and sound research policy analysis. The first step toward achieving this objective is to map the existing university research using cluster analysis. The result of the analysis can be utilized to formulate policy recommendations for development-driven research grant scheme.

Therefore, we propose a project for analysing university research documents in Indonesia using document clustering analysis. The objectives of the project are to map the existing university research and to formulate policy recommendations for development-driven research grant scheme.
